About Us

We are a small family farm located in south central Kentucky where we produce Registered Angus and Hereford cattle. Our parents, Leroyce & Ima Burks, purchased their first registered Hereford cattle in 1963 for their 85 acre home place which they operated as “Hereford Valley Farms” until their retirement dispersal in 1996. This allowed them to raise three sons who were actively involved in 4-H, FFA and youth breed programs. With adjoining land acquisitions the 85 acre home place now encompasses nearly 500 acres, which 300 acres are in pasture and hay for the cattle operation and the balance is used for row crop production.

Today, we maintain approximately 50 registered Angus cows, 20 registered Hereford cows and 30 commercial cows, which we use as embryo transplant recipient mothers. We produce a 100% AI and embryo transplant calf crop that are raised in two strict calving seasons. We have found with our endophyte infected fescue pastures that a 45 day spring and fall calving season beginning January 1st and September 20th respectively has allowed us the most reproductive efficiency.

We have always been involved with youth breed programs and the show ring and continue today to raise and market heifer calves for this part of the industry. However our main goal is to produce eye appealing, balanced trait, performance cattle with a strong emphasis on producing calving ease bulls for our commercial customers. We market cattle annually through state consignment sales and of course through private treaty sales. Be sure to click on our "For Sale" page to see our consignments to upcoming sales and our listing of Bulls for sale privately. We hope you take the time to view our complete website to learn more about us or contact us for more information. Visitors are always welcomed at Burks Cattle Company.
